Gordon Selfridge

Readers Digest August 2013 edition carries an Article on Selfridge (1903) who said that shopping should be both a visual and tactile experience, one best enjoyed in a moment of self indulgence.
He introduced the concept of lights and bright interiors and compelling window displays.
He told the staff to treat customers as guests  when they come and go , whether they buy or not.
"Today Selfridges & Co store in London's Oxford Street  is a tourist destination in its own right"
